Romeo's Story:
Sponsors saved this SMALLER Belgian gelding and his teammate
from slaughter, directly in a killer pen in New York state. The
boys had nowhere to go, so Equihab stepped up and took them on.
We were told that "they were used for logging and broke
to ride and drive" and that "the owner just wanted to
trade them in for a bigger set to work." We don't have harnesses
to fit them, so harness evaluation is up to you. We have ground-driven
him. We have saddled both him and his teammate up.
Romeo has been ridden once or twice but does need more mileage.
As time goes on we will continue to work with him.
WARNING: Romeo KICKS at hands put down his back
legs! Needs an experienced handler. We have sent him off for 30
days of pro training and he improved, but he cannot go to someone
who will hit him or who my get careless & get hurt. Judging
by his reaction it's an extreme fear/defensive reaction, perhaps
to a traumatic incident. Has a big scar on the one back leg &
perhaps these things are related. Does tolerate lines, hoses,
ropes near his back hooves -- just not hands. We will continue
to work with him and we will not place this horse with just anyone.
Romeo is well put-together and stocky, so he can carry some weight.
Might make an idea trail horse for a larger rider.
He is good for vet and tolerates fronts being done by farrier.
Respects being tied. Friendly and curious. A little bit of a worrier.
Sensitive.
