Updates since adopted:
Mr Bun was renamed Mr Big. He now enjoys the life on a lovely
farm outside of Frederick, Maryland. The owners have since adopted
another big draft, and the two of them are great friends.
Update Oct 2007: He's doing so great out on the trails, they're
taking him on longer rides. Now they're trying front shoes on
him to protect his feet from the terrain.
Mr Bun's story:
Mr Bun was just another dumped ex-Amish "tractor" who
was a little too old to keep up with his teammates pulling the
heavy plow out in the hot sun all day. He was found at the local
livestock horse auction near the end of the day when the meat
buyers shop. He only fetched $275 in the rough condition he was
in.
Equihab brought him home and gave him a second chance. Despite
having really thick hoof walls, his feet were so overgrown they
split upwards and the hooves grew outward into a split cloverleaf
shape. He was also underweight and run down.
Our farrier works wonders! In just a few trims she got his feet
looking like horse's feet should look. Over the months the weight
came back on him. All he needed was a little groceries, a deworming,
and having his teeth checked.
This guy is big but pretty quiet for his size. He rides nicely.
We assume he also drives judging by his collar sores and where
he came from.
