EEYORE'S STORY

News:

SORRY ... Eeyore could not be saved. His canker continued to grow and the pain made it impossible to handle his feet safely. He was also Cushings positive and we suspect between the Cushings and the canker, he was getting laminits.

----------------------------------------

11/9/06 He's now on Pergolide, a medicine necessary to help him. He very likely has Cushings. Please consider donating towards Eeyore. One small jar of the Pergoglide powder was about $130.

His blookwork came back good -- if we do general anaestesia for his surgey, he's cleared for it. We're just wating on scheduling it with the vet and farrier.

10/18/06 Dr. Moore, the vet who has done so much to help Spongey get over his canker, examined him. Sadly this horse has a number of issues, the worst of which is canker in all 4 feet. He also very likely has Cushings and a rotted tooth. He's also in need of major dental work. We had the farrier as well as an apprentice farrier help out today.

Dr. Moore is going to make some phone calls so she can offer us as many options as possible. We should hear back from her in a day or two.

The challenging part with this horse is that he's in alot of pain, especially in the RF. He can't (and won't) lift his other feet for cleaning or treatment. He was also taught by his old handers he'd get jabbed in the canker spot if he let people touch his feet, so he yanks his feet away from being held.

10/16/06 We drove 2 hours to pick him up from the livestock pens in central PA. He is a nice boy, and he loaded right away on the trailer.

Eeyore's feet: Canker is a degerative disease of the feet which replaces healthy frog (then sole and hoofwall) with a white, wet, spongelike tissue which causes pain, bleeding, and takes away structural strength from the foot.
