Updates since adopted:
She has since been doing light, fun driving work around Matt's
7 acre farmette. She goes out in trail rides and is one of the
steady ones in the group. She has settled in well and enjoys her
new life.
Matt has sent us updates and photos regularly, and Betty is doing
great!
Betty's story:
Betty was found by a good Samaritan, Kim. Betty was advertised
for sale in the Quarry, PA, newspaper. Trouble was she had not
had hoof care perhaps ever, and she was covered in rainrot/rainscald
so bad half her neck and back were bare. Nobody wanted to buy
her, and the farmer was about to ship her to the meat man.
The farmer said she was 23. He bought her as a 3 yr old, she
gave him two foals and worked hard for twenty years. Now he had
a younger team and she had to go.
Kim gave us the tip. The Fans of Barbaro sponsored her
as well as paying her vet expenses. We rushed up there with our
trailer (pictured with Kim),and we brought her home to safety.
Our foster farm in Aberdeen took her once she quarantined a few
weeks. Then she got to enjoy a vacation, turned out on FIFTY acre
pasture. She gained weight. The farrier worked on her feet and
got them caught up. She was very healthy & energetic!
Our vet at Unionville did her exit exam, teeth, and shots. The
vet also did precautionary blood work to make sure there weren't
any hidden problems.
On May 26th she was delivered to her new home, where she'll enjoy
the rest of her days puttering around a 7 acre farmette, doing
gentle riding or driving work for fun.
