Come meet the horses of Equihab
Where do they come from?
We try to balance the needs of the unfortunate horses in our community.
We do accept a few owner-donated horses,
but we also have had horses who were neglected, abandoned, possibly
mistreated, and about to be sold to slaughter. Our focus is on preventing
unnecessary suffering.
Our horses are not "worthless" or "abused"
so bad they're no longer usable. It's our job to rehabilitate the
horse. We heal them physically as well as mentally. We offer retraining
and regular handling to rebuild the horse's trust in people.
If we can intervene early, we can. We'd rather not wait until he
is skin-and-bones before we take action.
We ask the question: what will happen to this horse if we don't intervene?
Will he be suffering badly or dead next week? or next month?
Owners who donate a horse
We now feature updates and photos of owner donated horses on our site.
This means if you signed over a horse to us, you can now get the latest
news about him online.
If he's here long-term, check our "other
horses" page to see if he's still listed. Otherwise he should
be on the "success story"
page. If you don't see any news since your last visit, it means not
much has happened. Please check back later.
Due to rising long distance & cell phone costs as well as limited
volunteer hours, we can no longer call former owners to give them
minor updates. We will notify you if something major happens (if
you are one of the owners who did want to keep updated about their
former horses).
See what horses are for adoption,
are in the program but not adoptable,
or those that have been helped
by Equihab.
