When you cannot afford to have your horse euthanized:

Equihab will cover all of the expenses with euthanasia & disposal of a horse in need if an owner is unable to afford it. It is done locally. The horse isn't hauled more than 30 minutes from our office. The person doing it is a professional. Then we also pay for a licensed removal service.

Sending a horse to slaughter should never be forced on anyone, and it's not an acceptable substitute for humane euthanasia.

We understand sometimes the best owners fall on hard times, lose their job, or have some other financial crisis. Everyone has bad luck sometimes.

We recognize what a hard choice this is to make, and we respect your decision. We just don't want any horses suffering because an owner didn't have the funds that day to pay for this important service.

You can drop off your horse any day of the week. When you contact us, we will give you the address to drop him/her off at, usually in or near Cecil County, Maryland. Please do NOT bring any horse to our office building.

Do be aware that you will have to sign the horse over to us in order for Equihab to legally be able to order euthanasia. Also be aware the intent of this program is to help horses who are suffering, not to put down healthy, pain-free, happy animals.

In the best interest of the horses; we reserve the right not to euthanize a horse who has a reasonable chance of treatment or adoption. If there is any questions, an independent licensed vet will be hired to make this determination.
